The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System’s (CTECS) District Technology Plan guides our educational technology initiatives. This comprehensive plan is designed to enhance student learning, support educator development, and align with both state and national educational technology standards.
Overview of the District Technology Plan
The CTECS District Technology Plan aims to improve learning by providing accessible and effective technology for all members of the school community. Key components of the plan include:
- Integration of technology across curricula
- Development of technology learning environments
- Professional growth opportunities
- Community partnerships
These initiatives are supported by a dedicated District Technology Committee, ensuring that CTECS remains at the forefront of educational technology integration.
CTECS’ technology initiatives are aligned with the Connecticut State Educational Technology Plan (2024–2028) and national standards, focusing on technology-enabled learning, open educational resources, and digital equity.

Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. Because Grasso students complete both academic and technical instruction in a compressed schedule, missing school means missing valuable learning opportunities that are difficult to replace.
Reporting an Absence
If your child will be absent from school, please notify the school by:
Calling 860-441-0323 and leaving a message with your child's name, grade, date of absence, and reason for the absence. Please also include your name, phone number, and relationship to the student.
Emailing or texting written documentation to:
Jonathan.Grossman@cttech.org
860-415-3750Parent-Excused Absences
Parents or guardians may excuse a student's first nine absences during the school year, regardless of the reason.
If documentation from an outside source (such as a doctor's office) is provided for any of those first nine absences, the absence is still considered parent-excused.
Beginning with the 10th absence, all future absences may only be excused with appropriate documentation. Without documentation, the absence will be recorded as unexcused.
Partial-Day Attendance
Students must attend school for at least half of the school day to be considered present.
A student may be considered absent if they:
Arrive after 10:40 a.m. on a full school day.
Arrive after 9:40 a.m. on a half day.
Leave before those times.
Arrive late and leave early on the same day without attending at least half of the school day.
Even if a student is considered absent for attendance purposes, they are encouraged to attend school whenever possible so they can continue learning and stay on track academically.
Unexcused Absences and Credit Denial
Students are permitted up to nine unexcused absences during the school year.
A student who accumulates 10 or more unexcused absences is subject to credit denial. Credit denial means the student loses credit for the entire school year, even if they are passing their classes.
Students and families may request a hearing to appeal a credit denial decision.
Why Attendance Matters
On average, Grasso students miss about 10 days of school each year.
Because students complete the required academic curriculum in significantly less classroom time than students in a traditional high school schedule, attendance is especially important. If a student's total absences become excessive, the school will implement interventions to address attendance concerns.
Understanding Chronic Absenteeism
A student is considered chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of the school year—approximately 18 days, or about two days per month.
All absences count toward chronic absenteeism, including:
- Excused absences
- Unexcused absences
- Suspensions
Students who are chronically absent miss substantial instructional time and often must work harder to maintain good academic performance.
Tardies and Early Dismissals
Tardies and early dismissals reduce valuable instructional time and can make it more difficult for students to succeed.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to schedule medical, dental, and other appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
Frequent unexcused tardies may result in disciplinary action and will be closely monitored with the involvement of parents or guardians and the student's school counselor.
